Elena Rybakina outclasses Greet Minnen in first round at Roland Garros

Due to the rain, only one match was played at 11 a.m. this Tuesday: Elena Rybakina against Greet Minnen, on the Suzanne-Lenglen court. And the Kazakh didn’t hang around. In barely an hour, she dispatched (6-2, 6-3) the Belgian, 85th in the world, and easily reached the second round of Roland-Garros.

The 4th in the world worked on Minnen, notably with 36 winning shots (21 unforced errors). Opposite, his opponent won only 7 points out of 28 behind his second serve. Well ahead (6-2, 4-0), the winner of the Stuttgart tournament saw the 26-year-old Belgian come back to 5-3, saving a match point, but the favorite ended up closing the match.

Rybakina (24) will face Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus (50th) or Angelique Kerber (232nd) in the second round. If the German were to win, we would witness a duel between two Grand Slam winners: Kerber won the Australian Open and the 2016 US Open, Rybakina won Wimbledon 2022.
