Rafa Nadal in the category of sportsmanship, Carlos Alcaraz in that of the irruption of the season and Fernando Vicente as best coach are the three Spanish nominees for the 2020 ATP awards.
The ATP has released the names of all the candidates for its different awards: Returning Player of the Year, Most Improved Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award and Coach of the Year.
Nadal, number two in the world, is once again a candidate for the sportsmanship award, which has already won three times before. This time he will see the Argentine Diego ‘the little’ Schwartzman, to the Australian John Millman and to the austraco Dominic Thiem.
The young Murcian is also nominated Carlos Alcaraz, aged 17, who opts for the award of Newcomer of the year. Alcaraz competes with other players who have broken the door down in 2020, such as the American Sebastian Korda, the Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the australian Yuri Rodionov, the Kazakh Emil Ruusuvuori and the brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wild.
Also, in the category of best coach is Fernando Vicente, who now leads the career of the young Russian Andrey Rublev, one of the sensations of 2020. Vicente will measure himself Gilles Cervara, preparer of Daniil Medvedev; Juan Ignacio Chela, what’s stupid Schwartzman; Nicols Mass, coach of Thiem, Y Ricardo Piatti, which is helping to grow Jannik Sinner.
On the other hand, the nominees for other two categories in which there are no Spanish. It is the case of Player Comeback of the Year, where will the South African compete Kevin Anderson, the russian Andrey Kuznetsov and the Canadians Vasek Pospisil and Milos Raonic.
And finally, in the Most Improved Player of the Year, the French will compete Ugo Humbert, the russian Andrey Rublev, the Argentinian Diego Schwartzman and italian Jannik Sinner.
Winners of the ATP Awards, including fan favorite and humanitarian award winner Arthur Ashe, will be released later this month. Everyone can vote for their favorite singles and doubles player until Friday, December 11.
