The typical rookie team of the season was revealed this Monday by the NBA, and we obviously find Victor Wembanyama. Bilal Coulibaly, who had votes, does not appear in the first team or in the second.

There was no doubt about it, but it was made official by the NBA this Monday: Victor Wembanyama is indeed part of the typical rookie team of the season. Elected best rookie of the 2023-24 financial year unanimously (99 first places out of 99 possible), the 20-year-old French prodigy was also placed in the typical team by the 99 journalists on the voting panel, just like the rookie from Oklahoma City Chet Holmgren (22 years old). With 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds and 3.9 assists on average for his first season in San Antonio (71 games), Victor Wembanyama delivered an exceptional season from an individual point of view. His rival from OKC, drafted in 2022 but injured throughout his first season, averaged 16.5 points, 7.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 82 games with the Thunder, and in addition discovered the play-offs (15.6pts; 5.8rbds and 2.1pds on average in 10 matches). The two men are accompanied in the typical team by the winger (or full-back) of Charlotte Brandon Miller (17.3pts average), who obtained 97 votes, by the Miami winger Jaime Jaquez Jr (11.9pts), who obtained 89 votes, and by the leader (or rear) of Golden State Brandin Pod Ziemia (9.2pts), which obtained 64 votes.

Only four players in the Top 10 of the 2023 draft

In the second team of rookies, we find the pivot of Dallas Dereck Lively II (8.8pts average), Houston’s point guard Amen Thompson (9.5pts), the leader of Utah Keyonte George (13pts), the leader of Oklahoma City Cason Wallace (6.8pts) and the Memphis power forward GG Jackson II (14.6pts). Another Frenchman could have dreamed of appearing in one of the first two teams, Bilal Coulibaly. The Washington guard (or winger), who is not yet 20 years old, averaged 8.4 bridges and 4.1 rebounds in 63 games, and was selected for the Rising Stars Challenge of the All Star Game, but he received “only” 14 votes to appear in the second team (none for the first) and must therefore be content with the places of honor. In the end, only four players from the Top 10 of the 2023 draft appear on the two typical teams (Wembanyama, Miller, Thompson and Wallace). Note the absence of No. 3 in the draft Scoot Henderson, who struggled through his season with Portland (14 points on average in 62 games). GG Jackson (19 years old) achieved the best performance by being in the second team even though he was drafted in 45th position last year.
