Hall of Fame inductee Kevin Greene dies

Kevin Greene, linebacker for 15 years in the NFL and third on all-time list in sacks at quarterback, died this Monday, announced his family and the Hall of Fame.

The former player’s cause of death is unknown.

“The entire Hall of Fame family mourns the passing of Kevin Greene. I considered him a personal friend and a true member of the Hall of Fame In every sense. He possessed one of the most incredible dispositional attitudes of anyone I have ever met. He was a great player, but beyond that a great human being ”, lamented David Baker, CEO of the Hall of Fame.

Drafted by the Rams in the fifth round of the 1985 collegiate draft, Greene had a career total of 160 sacks of quarterbacks. He received five invitations throughout his career to the Pro-Bowl and two first-team All-Pro appointments. He was also named linebacker for the 1990 All-Decade second team.

“We lost a great player and person this person with the passing of Kevin Greene. His sudden death is shocking to all of us as he is a close friend and companion of many people in the Steelers family.”, said Art Rooney II, owner of the Steelers.

Trajectory

Along with wide receiver Marvin Harrison (1996-2008) and quarterback Brett Favre (1991-2010), Greene was one of three players who entered Canton, Ohio, in 2016.

Only Bruce Smith (200) and Reggie White (198) had more sacks than Greene, a statistic that was counted as of the 1982 season.

Throughout his career, Greene wore the Los Angeles shirt Rams, Pittsburgh Steelers, Carolina Panthers and San Francisco 49ers. Twice, once in Pennsylvania (1994) and once in Charlotte (1996), he finished as the league leader in quarterback sacks, with 14 and 14.5, respectively. His personal record, however, he repeated in 1988 and 1989 with the Rams (16.5).
