9-year rape sentence confirmed on appeal for Robinho

LE SCAN SPORT – The former AC Milan striker now has 90 days to appeal.

The sentence of former Brazilian international Robinho to 9 years’ imprisonment for the gang rape of a young woman committed in 2013 while playing at AC Milan, was confirmed by the Milan Court of Appeal on Tuesday. The judgment targeting Robinho and one of his friends for acts of group sexual violence in January 2013 was confirmed by the judges of the Milan Court of Appeal.

The two men were among a group of six accused of participating in the gang-rape of a 20-year-old woman at a Milan nightclub. They were both ordered to pay damages of 60,000 euros to the young woman.

Robinho, 36, who has denied the facts, has 90 days to appeal, after he was forced to leave his training club, Santos, last October due to pressure from the sponsors of the Brazilian team.

TV channel Globo Sports had broadcast extracts of tapes, which Italian prosecutors used in their indictment and in which the player reportedly said about the case: “I don’t care”, “the girl was completely drunk. She doesn’t remember what happened ”. Robinho started his career at Santos in 2002 and joined Real Madrid in 2005, then Manchester City from 2008 to 2015 before completing his European experience at AC Milan in 2014 where he stayed for 4 years.
