Report: Matthew Stafford suffers partial tendon tear in right thumb

The Lions sail in mediocrity (balance of 4-5) and are located in the basement of the NFC North. Now, right at the most critical moment of the campaign, the near future of Matthew Stafford leading the organization is uncertain.

According to a report by Tom Pelissero, from NFL Network, e32-year-old passer suffers a partial tendon tear in the thumb of his pitching hand (the right). At the moment it is unknown if Stafford will be able to face the Panthers, although the forecast is that the Georgia product will be available to play in week 11.

Before having such an encouraging estimate, the Lions performed an MRI on the quarterback’s finger. The results of the study determined that there was no significant damage to the phalanx.

According to Pelissero, the origin of the injury could be in a Kevin Pierre-Louis tackle on Stafford in the game against el WFT of week 10.

Also, Stafford’s absence for the next game seems unlikely due to the durability of the player. From 2011 until the middle of the 2019 campaign, he played all the Lions games (136 starts) and only a major back injury could marginalize him.

Panthers have problems too

During the game against the Buccaneers, QB Teddy Bridgewater was recalled for injury, later determined to be a medial collateral ligament tear. The most recent report indicates that the quarterback will be able to train on Wednesday and has not been ruled out to play against Detroit.
