Megadeth “crushes” the Mexico City Arena – El Sol de México

“Mexico!” announced a guttural voice, just after the lights in the room went out. The 20 thousand Megadeth fans present at the Mexico City Arena were ready to hear them “crush” the world tonight, with their “Crush The World Tour”.

While drops of beer and cardboard cups flew through the air, the stage gradually lit up, revealing Dave Mustaine, Dirk Verbeuren, James LoMenzo and Teemu Mäntysaari (its most recent member) starting their concert with “The sick, the dying… and the dead!”

The stage remained illuminated with sets of lights that changed to the rhythm of the music, while the group continued with “Dread and the Fugitive Mind” and “Sick O’ My Teeth”, remembering old times from the album “Countdown to Extinction” from 1992.

Among the crowd, hands were seen in the air making the rock sign, and hair was waving quickly. Some of his followers chose their best outfits to attend this event, with their faces painted black and white, and t-shirts commemorating their previous hours.

Dave was completely immersed in the music, singing and playing his guitar non-stop. His expression was difficult to see, as his blonde, curly hair covered his face almost completely.

He now took turns playing the albums “Rust in Peace” (1990), “Last Action Hero” (1993) and “Cryptic Writings” (1997), with “Hangar 18”, “Angry Again” and “She-wolf”.

“Good night!” Dave finally exclaimed, after almost half an hour into the show, before continuing with “This Was My Life.” “I love you fucking rucos,” shouted a fan in the crowd.

In the back you could see Dirk on the drums, who gave himself to the point that the strands of his hair moved through the air as if he were in a shampoo advertisement.

Melancholy and metal met when “Trust” played, and at the end Mustaine took the opportunity to walk around the stage and blow kisses to the people. “Thank you very much, guys. The next song we are going to sing to you has to do with the weather, I hope you will sing with me,” he said before performing “Tornado of Souls.”

Applause resounded when “A Tout Le Monde” arrived, a song from 1994, which was even banned from MTV at that time, as it was believed to talk about suicide. However, as Dave clarified in an interview years later, the lyrics were inspired by the death of his mother, whom he could not say goodbye to when she died.

“You sing very well,” said the former Metallica member, who took advantage of the pause to fix his hair and cool off a little. “We’ll be back”, one of their most recent songs from the album “The sick, the dying… and the dead!” (2022), played next.

Their biggest hit, “Symphony of Destruction” (1992, has appeared in video games such as Rock Band and Guitar Hero), continued with the repertoire, and as is tradition in their concerts, people accompanied them shouting “Megadeth, Megadeth” .

Their audience kept their energy up until the end, and didn’t sit down until the last song was over, and even a woman in the middle of the stands was waving a Mexican flag.

“Mexico City!…” Dave shouted, but the last part of his sentence could not be heard due to the noise in the place. “Peace sells” and “Holly wars” culminated with the concert, after just over an hour.
