Josep Lluís Vilaseca i Guasch, a key figure in Barcelona ’92 and Catalan sport, died this Saturday at the age of 90. As a lawyer, Vilaseca quickly became involved in the world of sports and held many positions, most notably as vice-president of the Organizing Committee of the Barcelona Olympic Games, member of the Spanish Olympic Committee (COE) or Barça manager during his presidency. Born in Barcelona on March 8, 1930, Josep Lluís Vilaseca graduated in Law from the University of Barcelona and was a member of the Parliament of Catalonia for CiU in the 1995 regional elections. In fact, on November 17, 1974 participated in the foundation of Convergència Democràtica de Catalunya in the monastery of Montserrat. In 2002 he received the St George’s Cross and in 2007 he received the UEFA Order of Merit, as he was also part of the Legal and Disciplinary Commission of the highest European football body (from 1997 to 2006). In the COE he presided over the Spanish Court of Arbitration for Sport.

He was also one of those responsible for the creation of the Sant Cugat High Performance Center and the modernization of the INEFC. At the end of 2014, Vilaseca published his memoir ‘Que consti en acta’, in the publishing house Edicions Proa and with a prologue by Pep Guardiola.
