Injury Woes Continue: Jannik Sinner Pulls Out of ATP Masters in Rome

After Carlos Alcaraz, another tennis superstar has to cancel his participation in the ATP Masters in Rome shortly before the start of the tournament. The reason is an injury.

Bitter for Italian tennis fans: Australian Open winner Jannik Sinner will not be competing in Rome. After world number three Carlos Alcaraz, the 22-year-old Italian is the next top star missing from the clay court event.

“After speaking to the doctors and specialists again about my hip problems, I have to announce that unfortunately I cannot play in Rome,” Sinner wrote on X.

It was “not easy to write this message,” said the Italian, who was sure of the support of the home fans in Rome. “I’m obviously very sad that I didn’t get fit in time, as it’s one of my absolute favorite tournaments. I can’t wait to play in front of my home crowd.”

Small consolation for the fans: Sinner announced that, despite his injury, he would travel to the Italian capital and watch the tournament for a few days.

Sinner and Alcaraz want to be fit for the French Open

The tennis star’s focus is now on getting fit for the second Grand Slam of the year in France as quickly as possible. “I will now work with my team and my doctors to be ready for Roland Garros.”

Around three weeks before the start of the French Open, Carlos Alcaraz also has injury concerns. “I felt pain in my arm after the match in Madrid,” the Spaniard wrote on

Examinations after his quarter-final defeat in the Spanish capital against Andrei Rublew revealed that edema had formed in his forearm. Alcaraz, who at the age of 20 already has titles in New York and Wimbledon to his name, is constantly plagued by injury problems. If he gets fit in time, he is considered one of the favorites for the trophy in Paris.
