David lost the elite ten with her last blow. Wierer’s triumph by only eight tenths

Czech biathletes did not imitate the great entry of their compatriots into the World Cup. From the quintet of national teams for points, Markéta Davidová achieved only 21st place in the finish in Kontiolahti, Finland, who had the seventh fastest running time of 15 km, but made three mistakes on the shooting range. Especially the last blow of her standing must have made her regret. If she hit the target, she would fit into the elite ten. Thanks to clean shooting and a lead of only eight tenths of a second, the queen of last winter, Dorothea Wierer from Italy, rejoiced at the championship.

The 30-year-old Italian was very hesitant about whether to still race after winning a large crystal globe, but she showed right at the first event of the season that she did not want to win. But Wierer had to worry a lot about the championship during the powerful finish of the German Denise Herrmann, who almost erased the half-minute loss in the last two kilometers.

The Swedes also shone, all five compared to the top 11, and Skottheim reached the podium for the first time in her career. The Norwegians did best on skis, but they burned out completely on the shooting range, so Röiseland finished in 24th place and Eckhoff even finished 67th with seven mistakes.

Start at fifth place. Moravec fired perfectly, only three seconds apart from the bronze

David was safely in the top ten until the last stop at the shooting range. She could make one mistake on the final stand to stay in it. But she wrote two penalty minutes, perhaps because she was tired. “I had the feeling all the time that I was knee-deep in snow on my skis, but according to the first data, it did not have such a significant effect on the running speed. However, the impression was absolutely insane and I am sorry for how much the wounds went up, “she told Czech Television.

Eva Puskarčíková was only five seconds away from the points gain. “The shooting range was not so terrible, but I started the race with two mistakes,” she regretted. Only a 75 percent success rate on the shooting range deprived Lucia Charvátová of a much better position. “They made the track quite salty, so I got a lot of snow, especially on two steep climbs. It really wasn’t very pleasant skiing,” she explained.
