VfB Stuttgart Prepares for Explosive Promotion Celebration as Season Ends

Either way, VfB Stuttgart will celebrate the end of a successful season on Saturday against Borussia Mönchengladbach (3:30 p.m., LIVE! on kicker). But perhaps there will be a particularly explosive promotion celebration.

Sebastian Hoeneß has announced that there will be no major rotation with his team on Saturday. That’s why the top performers of the last few weeks and months will be on the pitch once again. Accordingly, there will be no experiments with young talents against Gladbach.

Raul Paula, Laurin Ulrich, Luca Raimund and Co. are also needed in the Swabians’ second team. Because a particularly explosive situation was brewing in the regional league before the last matchday.

Hoeneß: “That’s sensational”

Of all people, VfB could challenge local rivals Stuttgarter Kickers for promotion to the 3rd league. “The boys have the opportunity – and that’s sensational – to get promoted to the third division. That’s where they’re challenged now,” explains Hoeneß, explaining why he won’t rely on the youngsters. “In this case, that is more important than a squad nomination or a short-term assignment, because next year it can mean developing at an even higher level.”

Not an easy situation for Hoeneß. On the one hand, it has the youngest team in the league, the players used have an average age of just 25.2 years (Bayern for comparison: 27.5 years). On the other hand, your own talents are often left out at the moment. That’s why the 3rd league would suit the coach. He hopes that the development of the young players from the youth academy there will progress faster “than is perhaps the case this year.”

“Raimund has made a real leap”

“I know from my own experience that it’s not always linear. These are always spurts,” says Hoeneß and gives an example: “I’m currently experiencing that with Luca Raimund, who has made a real leap in the last few weeks. He is “We’ve really moved closer, but we also have a few guys ahead of us in our squad.” The 19-year-old received at least three short appearances in the Bundesliga and was most recently substituted on in the 3-1 win against FC Bayern.

Live stream to the stadium

Incidentally, despite the Bundesliga game against Gladbach, Hoeneß will see in real time whether things work out for Markus Fiedler’s team on Saturday. The coach has had a live stream set up so that he can follow the game against Hoffenheim II live (2 p.m.). At the same time, the Stuttgart Kickers would have to make a mistake at FC Homburg.

And in the best case scenario, a promotion game will be celebrated in Bad Cannstatt. If it doesn’t work out, VfB’s U-19 juniors will still be qualified for the UEFA Youth League. There the talents can then compete with Europe’s elite.
