The Praetorian Guard by Ronald Koeman (Toni Padilla)

Ronald Koeman has landed at Barça right in the middle of the Lionel Messi earthquake. Without many players, because some are with their teams, and pending which ones to leave, to make room for those who want to sign. Today, Koeman led the second training session with the same 19 players who trained on Monday. That is, many youngsters from the subsidiary and the loss of Rakitic, who today will be announced as a new player of Sevilla, or Messi. Players have continued to do individual work with a great physical component but combined with ball exercises.

Awaiting news in the squad, the Dutchman has already closed his coaching staff. A team where there is only one person who was already in the first team a few months ago, the goalkeeping coach José Ramón de la Fuente, who arrived at the club in 2012. The others have now arrived at the Camp Nou. Although some already know the stadium, because they spent years there.

Koeman’s right hand man will be Alfred Schreuder (Barneveld, The Netherlands, 1972) a former player who was a midfielder at clubs such as NAC de Breda or RKC Waalwijk, also passing by Feyenoord, where he ended up lucky. As a coach, in 2009 he was the assistant of the British Steve McClaren at FC Twente, the club where he would end up being the first coach. In 2025 he left for the German Hoffenheim to be the assistant of Huub Stevens, first, and Julian Nagelsmann, the current coach of RB Leipzig, later. His good work designing strategy plays and understanding the game allowed him to be signed by Ajax in 2018, to be also the right hand of Erik ten Hag. In 2019 he was the coach of Hoffenheim, but did not finish the season.

The third coach will be Henrik Larsson (Helsingborg, 1971), considered one of the best players in the history of Swedish football. A brilliant striker, he was third in the 1994 World Cup, after a modest start at clubs such as Höbaborgs in Third and Helsingborgs. After passing through Feyenoord, he left for Celtic in Glasgow, where from 1997 to 2014 he became the club’s second highest scorer in history. From 2004 to 2006 she was a Barça player, and became a luxury substitute who could change matches, such as the Champions League final in Paris, in which she gave both assists. Already a veteran, he would still go through Manchester United briefly. As a coach he has not had as much fortune, he has worked in modest Swedish clubs and Helsingborgs, where he went on to lead his son. Koeman met Larsson when they met at Feyenoord and share agency agency.

The return of Albert Roca

To close the coaching staff, Barça have recovered Albert Roca. Granollers was currently the coach of Hyderabad in the Indian League. As a player, he played for clubs such as Hospitalet, Sabadell and Zaragoza, where he won a Cup. And as a coach, he worked in Europe, Manlleu or Sabadell, before becoming part of the coaching staff of Frank Rijkaard, whom he met in Zaragoza in the 80s. Then he followed Rijkaard to Galatasaray and the selection Saudi, to finally make debut like first trainer in the selection of El Salvador.

Roca will work accompanied by Jaume Bartrés and Daniel Romero. Bartrés, from Granollers like Roca, is leaving Espanyol, the club where he trained and where he has worked for most of his career, although he also spent two years in the United Arab Emirates with Javier Aguirre. In total, he has worked for 17 years at Espanyol and is a bet of Ramon Planes, the new Barça sporting director. Romero, a physical trainer specializing in strength and rehabilitation, was already working at the club but was not in the discipline of the first team.
