Here’s all the news around Stamford Bridge in the past 24 hours.

Agreement with Chilwell closed

Chelsea are close to signing Leicester City defender Ben Chilwell.

The Blues have long been looking for a new left-back and now they seem to have found their man in the form of the England international.

According to The Athletic, a £ 50m deal is in place, meaning the transfer is nearing completion, with the defender having undergone medical tests.

Furthermore, the Telegraph say that the deal could be concluded as early as next week.

However, Chilwell is ready to take his bow on the opening weekend of the new Premier League season due to a heel problem that caused him to miss the Foxes’ 2019/20 run-in.

He has undergone medical checks for a heel injury in London and is slated for another three weeks on the sidelines.

Pre-season training

Chelsea first team players have returned to Cobham for the start of their pre-season training ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.

The Blues ended their 2019/20 season on August 8 with a Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich, and the players are already preparing for next season.

Frank Lampard players will take a COVID-19 test as part of standard precautions before returning to action.

Chelsea said they signed Thiago Silva

Earlier this week, The Telegraph said Chelsea were mulling the prospect of signing Thiago Silva on a free transfer this summer.

If the Blues decide to pursue a move for the 35-year-old he would certainly get the seal of approval from former coach Carlo Ancelotti, a great fan of the Brazilian.

“When Thiago enters the field, he controls the defense with his great personality and character,” Ancelotti said in 2015. “He is the head of defense.

“Thiago is a leader, technically capable of doing extraordinary things in the two phases of the game.

“With him, things in the back are simple and efficient.

“His speed, his great ability to recover the ball, the way he reads the game, all combined with an extraordinary jump in aerial duels make him one of the best defenders in the world.”
