PSG goalkeeper Navas has ruled out the Champions League semi-final with a hamstring injury

The 33-year-old has yet to resume training since he was forced to leave the quarter-finals against Atalanta

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas was barred from his side’s Champions League semi-final against RB Leipzig on Tuesday after missing training again due to a hamstring injury.

The Costa Rican international was injured in the final stages of PSG’s dramatic 2-1 quarter-final win against Atalanta on Wednesday and had to be replaced by Sergio Rico.

A scan later revealed that he had sustained a hamstring tear, meaning the 33-year-old faced a race against time if he was to participate in the last four clash against Leipzig.

PSG medical staff monitored Navas over the weekend, but on Sunday afternoon he played no part in the training session. And just 48 hours from kick-off in Lisbon, the former Real Madrid player ran out of time to prove his fitness.

Navas’s presence will likely mean a rare beginning for Rico, 26.

The Spaniard has only made six appearances for the club this season after joining a seasonal loan from Sevilla after spending the previous season on loan at Fulham.

Rico signed a short-term contract extension in June to cover the remaining weeks of the extended 2019-20 season, though it remains to be seen whether the next term will still be at the Parc des Princes.

Former Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye also missed Sunday’s training session with a muscle injury and the club said the 30-year-old is very uncertain for Tuesday’s match.

Thiago Silva is also expected to play despite sustaining a mild hamstring injury during the Atalanta game, while Kylian Mbappe’s lively 30-minute cameo against the Serie A side suggests his recovery from an ankle injury is progressing. well.

Marco Verratti is back in partial training on Sunday, raising his hopes of being able to face RB Leipzig after losing to Atalanta.

Thomas Tuchel’s side reached their first Champions League semi-final in 25 years in the most dramatic of circumstances against Atalanta.

After 1-0 in injury time, the Ligue 1 side drew with Marquinhos before substitute Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting turned Mbappe’s pass for a winner in the 93rd minute.

It will be their first appearance in the last four games since 1995, when they were beaten 3-0 overall by AC Milan.
