“Lukaku made you think why Man Utd let him go?” – Ince believes the Red Devils lack a better striker

The Belgian international was cleared to leave Old Trafford in the summer of 2019 and continued to enjoy a scoring debut at Inter

Romelu Lukaku’s exploit at Inter will make Manchester United think “why did we let him go?” Says Paul Ince, with the Red Devils believed to need a Belgian-style forward.

They kept him in their books at Old Trafford for two seasons, with £ 75 million ($ 98 million) needed to catch him from Everton in the summer of 2017.

Lukaku sacked 42 goals in 96 appearances for United, but was never truly convinced as the lead in the number nine role.

This led to him being dumped by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with Anthony Martial taking on central strike duties for the Red Devils.

The Frenchman made a personal best of 23 goals in the 2019-20 season, but Lukaku scored 34 in his debut campaign at Inter.

That comeback saw him match the efforts of the great Brazilian Ronaldo, even if the Nerazzurri have not been up to par in Serie A and Europa League.

Inter Milan are hoping Lukaku can maintain his standards and take them to the important trophy in the future, with United now left to mull over what might have been.

Ince believes he needs to find another proven striker, with another transfer window open at the moment, with a required option to rely on to deliver in the Red Devils’ favored system.

This was told by a man who spent time with United and Inter Milan at the time of the game BT Sport from Lukaku: “No, I don’t think it would be [scoring that amount of goals for United].

“He’s with a different coach, I think what [Antonio] Conte came out of him is much more than what [Jose] Mourinho or Ole got out of him at Manchester United.

“He looks fitter, looks stronger, looks at him.

“Did it help Manchester United? I don’t think so, because they still need a man, if you go back to the match against Sevilla where they couldn’t score, they need someone to put the ball in the back of the net.”

“When you see Lukaku doing it, you start thinking why did we let him go?”

There are options for United to explore when it comes to getting another frontman, with the Red Devils having been linked to Lyon star Moussa Dembele and urged to consider a move to catch the former Paris Saint striker- Germain Edinson Cavani as a free agent.
