According to goalkeeper Andy Lonergan, Liverpool’s players were still focused and showed an “intense” will to win the day after they were named Premier League champions.
Veteran stopper Lonergan, who has confirmed he left the club after spending a season on the books where he broke the bank eight times, says it was a joy to be with a team for a year to be “full of winners” together. and says the day after Manchester City’s defeat against Chelsea was a special highlight.
The Reds’ players were out together to watch the game and they partied late into the night after the club’s first title was confirmed in 30 years.
But Lonergan says they were fully on in training the next day.
“One training session that really caught my eye was the day after winning the league when Chelsea beat Manchester City,” he told the Lancashire Post.

“There was a five-on-five game and a decision was made that someone wasn’t happy about.
“There was too much shouting – not punching or something – because the players wanted to win this five-on-five game.
“Forget the fact that we won the title the night before. The intense focus was on this game in training.
“That summed up the attitude towards Liverpool, it was full of winners.”
Lonergan confirmed that once he left Liverpool he could take on his next challenge abroad.

“I have left Liverpool now, they will have five goalkeepers when they return with boys returning from credit,” he said.
“At the moment there is no place available for another goalkeeper. I knew that was going to happen.
“I went at a high point and really enjoyed my time as a Liverpool player.
“I’m relaxing now, playing golf and maybe taking a vacation.
“I’ll see what happens next. I am fortunate that I don’t have to play soccer for that. It must upset me – there could be an opportunity to go abroad. “
