Tennis: Tunisian Majed Kilani suspended 7 years for match fixing

The anti-corruption commission within the International Tennis Federation has suspended Tunisian Majed Kilani for 7 years for match fixing.

The commission specifies that the Tunisian player was involved in the faking of the results during a championship organized in August 2016 in Egypt.

Kilani (23) was also fined $ 7,000 and banned from attending ATP (professional tennis association) events.

The Tunisian tennis player currently occupies the 800th place in the world in singles and the 528th position in doubles.

In a statement to the TAP agency, the president of the Tunisian tennis federation (FTT), Salma Mouelhi regretted this decision taken against Kilani, specifying that the latter, who was studying at the time in the United States had taken the decision to participate in this championship alone, considering that the player had made a mistake and deserved the suspension.

“We have received a correspondence from the International Tennis Federation regarding this sanction, and I myself have been aware of this decision for a few months since I am a member of the international body,” said Mouelhi.

And the president of the FTT adds that “Majed Kilani is a well-educated young man of a high sporting and human level, but unfortunately he made a mistake and he fell into the trap… Maybe because of the lack of experience and from a young age. In any case, it is a lesson to be learned for all young players to stick to the sports charter and stay away from any deviation that would put their sports future at risk ”.
