In 2013, the German coach Jürgen Klopp could become the head coach of Manchester United, but did not move to Old Trafford because of his wife. This story was told to Norwegian TV2 by former Liverpool player Phil Thompson.
“I interviewed Klopp for Sky and asked if he and Liverpool were made for each other. He looked at me and asked: “Why?”.
Klopp then told me that he could lead Manchester United, but his wife said that it was wrong. Something is strange there. It’s like Jürgen was made for Liverpool, ”Thompson said.
Jürgen Klopp led Liverpool to their first league title since 1990.
