A Redemptive Rematch in Aichi
The championship final arrived only 48 hours after Japan handed South Korea a shutout defeat in the Super Round. Japanese left-hander Shin Higuchi had silenced the Korean lineup on September 25, allowing just four hits and striking out four batters across seven scoreless innings. Sent back to the mound for the final on remarkably short rest, Higuchi lasted only three frames, surrendering four hits and one run before South Korea broke through.
Pitching Dominance on the Mound
South Korea manager Ryu handed the starting ball to Gwak Bin, who delivered a stellar performance after throwing six no-hit innings with 10 strikeouts against Chinese Taipei on September 21. Gwak worked 6.1 innings against Japan, throwing 111 pitches while allowing four hits, two walks, and nine strikeouts while yielding just a single run.
