Arthur Fils has officially broken into the ATP top 10 for the first time, reaching No. 9 in the latest men’s tennis rankings released on Monday. The milestone makes the 22-year-old the 13th French player in history to crack the elite tier since the computer rankings were established in 1973, ending a drought for French tennis that began when Gaël Monfils last held a top-10 spot in September 2020.
Climbing the ATP Rankings and Joining Historic Company
Fils joins a select lineage of French players to reach the top 10, a group inaugurated by Yannick Noah in August 1982. Following Noah, the exclusive club expanded over the decades to include Henri Leconte, Thierry Tulasne, Guy Forget, Cédric Pioline, Arnaud Clément, Sébastien Grosjean, Richard Gasquet, Gilles Simon, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Gaël Monfils, and Lucas Pouille, who was the last to achieve the feat in March 2018.

At 22 years and three months old, Fils becomes the third-youngest Frenchman in history to reach the top 10. He sits behind Richard Gasquet—who achieved the milestone at 21 years and 21 days—and Yannick Noah.
At the very top of the ATP rankings, Jannik Sinner remains at No. 1, followed by Alexander Zverev at No. 2 and Carlos Alcaraz at No. 3.
Season Milestones and Injury Management
The breakthrough ranking comes on the heels of a season marked by both high achievement and physical hurdles. Fils captured the first ATP Masters 1000 title of his career earlier this year at Cincinnati, cementing his status as a premier threat on hard courts. However, his Grand Slam campaign was severely hampered by injuries. After missing both the Australian Open and Roland-Garros due to physical setbacks, he managed just a single match victory at a major, coming at Wimbledon.
Following an absence from competition since the US Open, Fils returned to the court on Monday by claiming a straight-sets victory in the opening round of qualifications at the ATP 500 tournament in Tokyo.
Chasing the Top 5 and the ATP Finals
Records show Fils has virtually no ranking points to defend until February 2027, providing a clear runway to climb higher. He currently trails the world No. 5, Félix Auger-Aliassime, by 740 points, placing the top 5 firmly within his sights.
Fils is also actively competing for a spot at the season-ending ATP Finals.

The broader French contingent saw notable shifts in the latest rankings update. Ugo Humbert climbed one spot to No. 32, edging past Arthur Rinderknech, who dropped two places to No. 33. Hugo Gaston made the most significant jump among established names, leaping 10 spots to land at No. 87. Meanwhile, Titouan Droguet rose 12 positions to No. 72, and Kyrian Jacquet recorded the largest upward movement of the week among his compatriots, surging 21 spots to No. 86.
