From June 18 to 19, the 59th athletics game of the Latvian Sports Veterans (Seniors) Union took place in Bauska, in which athletes from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia participated. In total, about 400 athletes from 30 teams took part in the competition. The Ventspils team consisted of 17 participants.
Places won by Ventspils athletes:
Valdis Cela -1. place in long jump (4.36 m), high jump (1.40 m), 100 m run (15.19 sec.) and three-jump (9.87 m);
Gatis Brakanskis – 3rd place in the 400m race (1: 12.03) and the 800m race (02: 48.40);
Raitis Kozlovskis – 4th place in the 1500m race (5: 58.94) and the 5000m race (22: 40.43);
Mikus Brakanskis– 2nd place in javelin throwing (38.39 m) and 3rd place in long jump (4.98 m);
Dainis Kūla – 1st place in bullet shooting (12.28 m) and javelin throwing (44.46 m);
Jānis Stalidzāns – 1st place in discus throw (29.14 m), 2nd place in high jump (1.45 m) and 4th place in ball throwing (10.50 m);
Ugis Lasmanis – 1st place in high jump (1.70m), 2nd place in discus throw (36.64 m) and 4th place in ball throwing (12.27 m);
Juris Baraus – 2nd place in the 400 m race (1: 19.76) and the 800 m race (2: 57.17);
Didzis Matvajs – 1st place in bullet shooting (8.86 m) and high jump (1.40 m), 2nd place in javelin throwing (36.05 m);
Alexei Ilyushin – 3rd place in discus throw (29.45 m) and 3rd place in javelin throw (32.51 m) and 5th place in bullet throwing (11.39);
Dace Brakanska – 1st place in long jump (2.92 m), high jump (1.15 m) and short jump (6.96 m);
Ginta Rassa – 1st place in the 800m race (2: 33.74), 2nd place in the 400m race (1: 08.11) and 3rd place in the 200m race (31.40 sec);
Maija Vesele – 1st place in three-jump (5.23 m), 2nd place in long jump (2.20 m) and high jump 0.95 m);
Linked Ziemane – 2nd place in disc throwing (20.07m), high jump (1.30 m) and 3rd place in ball throwing (9.14 m) and javelin throwing (26.58 m);
Signe Lion – 3rd place in the 800m race (3: 34.55) and 5th place in the 3000m race;
Iveta Stankevica – 2nd place in disc throwing (14.90 m), 3rd place in javelin throwing (14.05 m) and 4th place in ball throwing;
Līga Konovalova – 2nd place in 200 m run (33.28 sec.) And long jump (3.88 m), 3rd place in three-jump (7.75 m);
L.Ziemane, L.Konovalova, I.Stankevica and G.Rassa from Ventspils won the 4th place in the 4×100 m relay (1: 02.93).
On the 18th of June, in the sports field of Bauska State Gymnasium, the 59th sports games competition of the Latvian Sports Veterans (seniors) in mini-football for men in the age group 50+ took place. 9 teams from Riga, Bauska, Tukums, Daugavpils, Jelgava, Liepāja, Aizkraukle, Līvāni and Ventspils participated in the competition. In the competition of nine teams, Ventspils team won the 2nd place.
With the support of Ventspils City Municipality, senior athletes regularly participate and succeed in world, European championships and Latvian competitions. Our athletics seniors can use the city’s sports facilities free of charge on a daily basis to provide training.
