A Quebecer recalled by the Blue Jays

Quebecer Otto Lopez was recalled by the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday.

At 23, the one who grew up in the Tétreaultville district of Montreal, was also available for the game scheduled for the evening at the Rogers Center against the New York Yankees.

Earlier in the day, even before the Jays confirmed his promotion, he was already on hand in Toronto catching ground balls in practice.

Lopez, considered the fifth best prospect in the Blue Jays organization, is not his first recall with the Toronto team.

His first stay, however, was limited to a single at-bat, on August 17, 2021 in Washington, in a 12-6 loss to the Nationals. This time, Lopez could be called upon to play a role in the important three-game series against the Yankees which will continue until Sunday.

In 35 games at the AAA level with the Buffalo Bisons this season, the Dominican-born Quebecer, who plays in the defensive infield, has a .225 batting average and a ,318. He also had four stolen bases.

In order to recall Lopez, the Jays sent reliever Matt Gage to the Bisons.
