Europa League: Does RTL want to rip off the Eintracht fans? – Bundesliga

RTL is apparently trying to sell subscriptions for the in-house streaming service on the back of Eintracht.

According to BILD information, the private broadcaster plans to hide the third group game against Olympiacos Piraeus on the streaming payment portal TVNOW after the Europa League opener against Fenerbahce and the second group game tomorrow (6.45 p.m.) at Royal Antwerp.

Union was shown on free TV on the first match day, and Leverkusen was selected on the second match day. Eintracht, on the other hand, always ran and runs behind the paywall – if you want to see all the games, you have to take out a subscription and pay for it.

Does RTL want to rip off Frankfurt fans of all things?

Background: Since Eintracht’s Europa League games have generated good ratings on television over the past three years, the range is to be used to attract new subscribers to the paid offer. Sky Bundesliga, Sky Sport, DAZN, Amazon Prime – and now TVNOW?

Even if RTL said on BILD request that the decision on the broadcasting platform would only be made in the previous week – the current plan is apparently: not to show the Piraeus game on free-to-air TV either, so that the Frankfurt fans do not go to the TV Antwerpen-Spiel cancel the free trial month, but transfer 4.99 euros per month.

And that for a stream that ran against Fenerbahce over a minute behind real time. And without the Europa League RTL top staff Steffen Freund and Marco Hagemann. It goes without saying that Eintracht and the fans are not happy about it.

The Eintracht fans let their frustration run free on the Internet: “Total madness”, “insane”, “how many more subscriptions for football?” And of course the club bosses are also watching with great excitement whether RTL will play the Piraeus game then really hidden behind the payment barrier as planned.

Yesterday, Eintracht did not want to comment on the problem.
