Paris Saint-Germain beat Manchester City 2-0 on September 28, 2021 in Group A of the Champions League. The Parisians won thanks to goals from Senegalese Idrissa Gana Gueye and Argentinian Lionel Messi.

Almost perfect evening for Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. Two weeks after a disappointing 1-1 draw at Club Brugge, the French football club reacted in the best possible way: by beating their big rival in the squad, Manchester City.

Idrissa Gana Gueye’s powerful strike

The start of the Parisian match is ideal. In the 8th minute, after a cross from Kylian Mbappé deflected by Neymar, the ball reached Idrissa Gana Gueye. The Senegalese sends him into the opposing left corner with a dry shot: 1-0.

The midfielder was subsequently the victim of a big sole from Kevin De Bruyne. But he can continue the meeting, just like the Belgian who gets away with a simple yellow card (40th) …

During this first period, the Parisians have several opportunities to double the bet, like this distant strike from Ander Herrera which forces the visitors’ doorman, Ederson Moraes, to a tap (38th).

Manchester City threatening

It is nevertheless the Cityzens who are the closest to scoring the second goal of this meeting. Especially in the 26th minute, when Raheem Sterling sent the ball to the crossbar with a header. This one then bounces towards Bernardo Silva who, incredibly, sends him in turn on the bar while the cage was wide open in front of him.

PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is then vigilant on an attempt from De Bruyne (37th) and a header from Ruben Dias (43rd).

At the start of the second half, the Italian still barely comes in front of De Bruyne (54th).

Lionel Messi opens his counter with PSG

PSG remains dangerous despite everything, as illustrated by this tumult of Neymar on the right, who strikes rather than serving Kylian Mbappé at the far post. However, it is the third ace of the Parisian attack which widens the gap in the score.

In the 74th minute, following a relay with Mbappé, Lionel Messi indeed rolls a strike that finds the frame: 2-0. The Argentinian thus scores his first goal with PSG. Truly an almost perfect evening for the Parisian training.
