Antonio Conte Turns Down Tottenham Hotspur Because…

Jakarta

Antonio Conte has not been recruited as the new manager of Tottenham Hotspur. The Italian man hinted that the project carried out by The Lilywhites was not convincing enough for him.

After leaving Inter Milan, Conte was approached by Tottenham to fill the vacant manager position. Intense communication has even been carried out by both parties.

But now Tottenham turned around and approached the former AS Roma coach, Paulo Fonseca. Talks with Conte finally stopped just like that.

The Athletics previously reported that there were three main things that made Tottenham failed to agree with Conte. The first is Conte’s salary request which is considered expensive, which is 12 million Euros per season.

Second, Conte asked for transfer funds to strengthen the team, while Tottenham wanted Conte to maximize the young players. Lastly, Conte was only allowed to bring in 4 staff, while the Lecce coach previously had 9 assistants.

In an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Conte explained his ambition to build the club to success. The answer is believed to point to his situation with Tottenham, although Conte did not specifically name the club.

“The market sets the price, but if I was obsessed with money, I would have stayed at my previous club. I would have accepted a compromise and got a new contract,” Conte said.

“But I want to find a project, and I’m ready to stay at home if nothing convinces me. It has to do with vision, honesty and principles.”

“Normally, I like challenges, and I’ve accepted them a lot in my career. Even the top clubs I coached were not favorites to win when I came.”

“But, if there is one thing that is not convincing for me, I choose not to accept it, regardless of the fee,” said the coach, who has won league titles with Juventus, Chelsea and Inter Milan.
