Students from École primaire Vision Saint-Jean captured two gold medals in the Grade 2 category at the regional cross-country final of the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ), held in Saint-Bruno on Oct. 18, canadafrancais.com reported.
Léo Harrisson and Olivia Larocque each won gold in the one-kilometre race, giving the Johannais school a sweep of the top two spots in its youngest division. The school’s other Grade 2 runners also placed: Summer Lauzon finished seventh and Harrie Lena Lapointe eighth.
Results Across the Older Grades
Vision Saint-Jean’s results extended beyond the gold medals. In Grade 4, Rosalie Larocque finished fourth in the two-kilometre race. In Grade 6, Raphaëlle Marsan placed sixth, while Florence Larocque took the silver medal with a time of 7 minutes 51 seconds over two kilometres.
That silver-medal performance carried Larocque further: she qualified for the provincial championship, which took place in Val-d’Or on Oct. 25, where she finished in ninth position, according to canadafrancais.com.
What the Regional Final Decided
The RSEQ regional final served as the qualifying step to the provincial championship for young runners in Quebec’s student sports network. For Florence Larocque, the 7:51 silver in Saint-Bruno was the result that punched her ticket to Val-d’Or, where she closed out her season with a ninth-place finish on Oct. 25.
For Harrisson and Larocque, the one-kilometre golds marked the highlight of the school’s day in Saint-Bruno, with the pair finishing ahead of the rest of the Grade 2 field on Oct. 18.
