Vaishnavi Adkar and Rutuja Bhosale Lose Chennai Open Doubles Final

Vaishnavi Adkar and Rutuja Bhosale fell in the WTA 250 Chennai Open women’s doubles final on Sunday, losing to Switzerland’s Simona Waltert and Naïma Karamoko 6-2, 6-0, according to prabhasakshi.com.

Despite the straight-sets defeat, the Indian duo secured a milestone in national tennis history. Adkar and Bhosale became the first all-Indian pair to reach a WTA Tour-level doubles final.

Waltert and Karamoko dictated the match from the opening games with aggressive baseline play and sharp net tactics. Karamoko kept the pressure on with quick movement at the net, while Waltert anchored the backcourt with powerful shots.

Early unforced errors and missed opportunities plagued the Indian team. A forehand winner from Waltert earned the Swiss pair their initial break point, and a missed baseline return from Bhosale surrendered the first service break.

Karamoko held serve to push the lead to 3-0. Waltert then pierced the defense with a backhand winner between the two Indian players to secure a 4-0 advantage.

Adkar and Bhosale briefly broke Waltert’s serve in the fifth game to get on the board. The Swiss team quickly slammed the door, however, as Karamoko controlled the net and Waltert avoided mistakes to close out the opening set 6-2.

The pattern persisted in the second set as early errors and a double fault from Bhosale gifted the Swiss pair an immediate break. Karamoko routinely intercepted returns at the net, and Adkar dropped her serve as the deficit grew.

Another double fault effectively ended hopes of a comeback. Waltert and Karamoko swept the second set 6-0 to capture the Chennai Open doubles title.
