David Ferrer to Join Casper Ruud’s Coaching Team Next Season

David Ferrer will join Casper Ruud’s coaching team next season, Eurosport reported, ending speculation that the former world number two might partner with Carlos Alcaraz.

“Good news travel fast,” Ruud wrote on Instagram regarding the appointment. “David Ferrer will join my team next year and of course we are all very excited for everything that is to come.”

Christian Ruud will remain a core member of his son’s coaching staff. The 28-year-old Norwegian failed to capture a title this season, falling to Jannik Sinner in the ATP Masters final in Rome with a score of 4-6, 4-6.

Ruud currently holds the 18th spot in the ATP rankings. He plans to finish his season at the tournament in Stockholm, a competition he won last year alongside his victory at the Madrid Masters.

Ruud seeks to regain his previous form with Ferrer’s guidance. The Norwegian reached three Grand Slam finals and climbed to a career-high ranking of second after losing the 2022 US Open final to Alcaraz, according to tournament records.

Ferrer retired from professional tennis in 2019. He subsequently coached Alexander Zverev for roughly six months in 2020, guiding the German player to two titles in Cologne during the pandemic and an appearance in the US Open final against Dominic Thiem.

Following his stint with Zverev, Ferrer spent four years as captain of the Spanish Davis Cup team. He previously confirmed that the Davis Cup Finals in Bologna, scheduled from November 24 to 29, would mark his final commitment in that role.

With those duties concluding, Ferrer will transition directly into Ruud’s player box. The announcement rules out any rumored partnership between the Spanish coach and Alcaraz.
