Sam Darnold Ruled Out Against Arizona Cardinals
Sam Darnold will miss Sunday’s home game against the Arizona Cardinals due to a hamstring injury. The Seattle Seahawks quarterback sustained the issue late in Monday’s loss to the Chicago Bears.
Head coach Mike Macdonald stated that the player’s condition will be evaluated on a weekly basis, according to league reports. The franchise does not plan to place him on the injured reserve list.
Darnold May Miss Week 10 Before the Bye Week
ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported via league sources that Darnold could also miss Week 10 against the Las Vegas Raiders. A return in Las Vegas remains a possibility for the signal-caller.
Following that matchup, the Seahawks enter a bye week. If Darnold sits out against the Raiders, he would gain a three-week recovery window before facing the San Francisco 49ers in Week 12.
Mounting Physical Toll Through Seven Games
Darnold’s injury adds another setback to an inconsistent campaign. Through seven games, he has completed 60.2 percent of his passes for 1,478 yards, throwing ten touchdowns against nine interceptions.
He also played through a cracked rib sustained on the second play of Monday’s game against Chicago. However, Macdonald confirmed the hamstring issue is the sole reason for his absence against Arizona.
Drew Lock Takes Over Starting Duties
Drew Lock is slated to start in place of Darnold on Sunday. Lock has dealt with his own right elbow injury that kept him out of two recent contests, though he logged limited participation in practice on Friday.
Jalen Milroe remains available as the backup. Milroe has not appeared in a game this season and took just three snaps across three appearances during his rookie campaign. The Seahawks also added quarterback Adrian Martinez to their practice squad.
Lock Has Dealt with Glute and Forearm Injuries
Lock previously filled in for Darnold after the starter sustained a glute injury in the season opener.
Lock appeared on the injury report with a forearm issue prior to a Week 6 loss to the Denver Broncos and was ruled out due to his elbow before a Week 7 win over the Kansas City Chiefs.
