Fysieke en mentale gezondheid vormen een cruciale basis voor effectief leren, werken en een gelukkig leven,
said Dr. Pham Sy Cuong, director of Nguyen Tat Thanh Middle School.
Nearly 1,300 students, parents, teachers, and staff gathered for the culture and sports festival at Nguyen Tat Thanh Middle School, vietnam.vn reported. The event featured four competitive sports: pickleball, table tennis, badminton, and tug-of-war.
Physical Education Department head Vu Hong Hai outlined participation across the school’s classes. A total of 42 classes entered the pickleball tournament, while 36 classes registered for table tennis events.
Table tennis featured a men’s singles bracket for teachers, staff, and parents, alongside a men’s doubles bracket for middle school students. Meanwhile, 47 classes signed up for the men’s doubles badminton competition across two grade levels.
Tug-of-war drew the highest level of direct family involvement. Forty-three classes entered the discipline across three grade brackets covering grades 6 through 12.
Each tug-of-war team consisted of 24 athletes split evenly between 12 students and 12 parents. Parent Nguyen Thi Hien stated that families welcomed the advance notice from the school, which allowed them to adjust their schedules to attend.
The event of this year was very joyful; parents, children, and the school all participated enthusiastically,
Hien said, noting that joint participation encouraged children to engage in active sports.
Eighth-grade student Nguyen Minh Khang noted that the presence of teachers, parents, and peers created a lively atmosphere. Sixth-grade student Pham Le Minh Khue added that tug-of-war required strict coordination and teamwork to build stronger bonds within the class.
Director Pham Sy Cuong emphasized safety, community cohesion, and sportsmanship as core values for the event. The school utilizes existing stadiums, indoor courts, and multi-purpose gymnasiums to host district and cluster-level tournaments.
To sustain physical education outside of annual festivals, the school operates five dedicated sports clubs covering football, martial arts, badminton, table tennis, and yoga. Students in grades 6 through 12 select one discipline to follow within the regular school schedule.
How many total participants attended the festival?
The event brought together nearly 1,300 participants, including school staff, teachers, students, and parents.
