USA Track & Field announced a new logo on Wednesday that places the words “USA” and “Track & Field” on two lines below the familiar wings and star, The Sports Examiner reported — a refresh the federation says preserves its established symbols while updating how it presents itself as it builds toward the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
The redesign is the fourth major logo since the organization was founded as The Athletics Congress in 1979 and later renamed USA Track & Field in 1992, according to amileaminute.com. In the new design, the USA wordmark appears in a bold typeface with “Track & Field” spelled out below it in a similar font at a lighter weight and smaller size, the outlet reported. A teaser video accompanied the unveiling.
The wings and star stay; the wordmark changes

Our values haven’t changed. We’re carrying them forward into the next chapter of our sport.”
Why the federation rebranded now
The logo lands as USATF begins its build for the 2028 Olympics and Paralympics in Los Angeles. The organization said the revamped identity will immediately begin appearing on its own platforms and will be adopted by its 55 national member associations, amileaminute.com reported.
That rollout matters because the federation serves as the umbrella for track and field, distance running, cross country and race walking in the United States — a scope the 1992 name change was designed to make legible to the American public.
From The Athletics Congress to USA Track & Field
When the governing body replaced the Amateur Athletic Union in 1979, it took the name The Athletics Congress and a logo featuring a runner figure beside the TAC lettering, amileaminute.com reported. At its annual convention in December 1992, leaders decided the name needed to be easier for the public to recognize and more marketable, and one that better symbolized the full range of the sport. The USA Track & Field name also removed confusion with the word “athletics,” which was more commonly used globally and had led TAC to be mistaken for other sports.
