1:7 loss to Osnabrück costs BSG Wallhöfen the table lead

BSG Wallhöfen/Ihlpohl surrendered first place in the badminton Landesliga on Sunday with a 1:7 defeat to title rival BC 82 Osnabrück — a result that capped a weekend in which the club had first banked a 6:2 win over TuS Hilter, Weser Kurier reported. The two scorelines tell the whole story of the matchday: a shorthanded but still convincing victory against a promoted side, followed hours later by a heavy loss that dropped the team from the top of the table.

A 6:2 Win Over TuS Hilter Despite Four Absences

Wallhöfen/Ihlpohl opened the third matchday at Sportzentrum Seevetal already short-handed. Yannick Rohdenburg was out ill, Rebecca Semken was helping the third team, and Jakob Puckhaber and Mathis Jaskosch were both carrying knocks. Veteran Arndt Petersen was called in to fill the gap. Even so, three doubles wins put the hosts 3:0 up early: Monsees/Petersen beat Strelow/Wortmann 21:19, 21:19; Tietjen/Kück beat Heuer-Jungemann/Niermann 21:13, 21:10; and Jaskosch/Alpers won their doubles debut over Tran/Schowe 21:13, 23:21.

Puckhaber said afterward that the team would have been the clear favorite even at full strength. “Against promoted side Hilter, we were the clear favorites even without the absences,” he said. The singles then split the spoils: Joana Tietjen won the women’s singles 21:15, 21:14, Puckhaber came back from a lost opening game to beat Wortmann 19:21, 21:18, 21:15, and the mixed pair Kück/Petersen sealed the 6:2 with a three-set win over Schowe/Hüseman, 21:17, 14:21, 21:13. Monsees lost a tight men’s singles match to Strelow 21:16, 19:21, 20:22, and Jaskosch fell to Tran 21:10, 23:25, 16:21.

Jaskosch’s Injury Worsens After Hilter Match

Jaskosch’s three-set loss against Hilter proved costly beyond the scoreline. He won the first set 21:10 but faded badly in the second, and after the match he was unable to play any further that day. Puckhaber credited the coaching of Tebbe Monsees and Petersen for his own comeback win. By the time Wallhöfen/Ihlpohl traveled to Osnabrück, Jaskosch was ruled out entirely, further thinning a depleted squad.

Osnabrück’s 7:1 Statement Ends the Title Run

Against Osnabrück, Wallhöfen/Ihlpohl tried to set up for a win and target both men’s doubles, Puckhaber said — an approach that “went pretty badly wrong.” Both men’s doubles went to the hosts in straight sets: Momper/Kessens beat Monsees/Petersen 21:10, 21:12, and Djitli/Lang beat Puckhaber/Alpers 21:16, 21:10. The only point for the visitors came from the women’s doubles pair Tietjen/Kück, who won 22:20, 8:21, 21:11 over Koch/Wending. Tietjen then lost the women’s singles narrowly, 19:21, 19:21, to Wending, and the mixed doubles went to Osnabrück 21:17, 21:19. Puckhaber pushed Djitli to 22:20 in the second set of his singles but lost 21:10, 22:20; Alpers fell to Lang 21:13, 21:14; and an exhausted Monsees could not convert a set lead against Momper, losing 13:21, 21:16, 21:11 in the finale.

“That was clear-cut and very deserved for Osnabrück,” Puckhaber summed up.

Home Match Against New Leader SG Brietlingen/Adendorf Before Christmas

The defeat means Wallhöfen/Ihlpohl no longer top the Landesliga table. The club now looks ahead to a home matchday shortly before Christmas, where it will face several opponents including SG Brietlingen/Adendorf — a direct chance to win back first place.
