Crowdfunding Campaign Surpasses 100,000 Euros Following Football Community Outpouring
Spanish football has rallied around the family of Jesús de Miguel, the 30-year-old forward who died last Tuesday in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, generating more than 100,000 euros through a rapid collective fundraising effort. Efe reported that the initiative, launched by Hércules CF striker Fran Sol via GoFundMe despite the player having no personal acquaintance with De Miguel, shattered its initial 5,000-euro target within 48 hours.
The campaign drew immediate financial support from players across LaLiga’s top two divisions. Pedro Porro contributed 3,500 euros, Álex Remiro added 3,000 euros, and Borja Iglesias donated 2,500 euros. Álvaro Morata and Álex Baena each gave 1,000 euros, alongside contributions from Marc Bartra, Diego Llorente, Carles Aleñá, Álvaro Fidalgo, and Peter Federico, according to Efe. Efe noted that Sol described the effort as entirely spontaneous, stating he bypassed social media photo-sharing in favor of a fundraising model common in other countries.
Club executives also made substantial donations to the fund. Christian Septien, president of Cádiz CF, contributed 15,000 euros at a personal level, while AD Ceuta president Luhay Hamido donated 3,500 euros, as detailed by Efe. “All of that money will go to his wife, his daughter, his family,” Sol said, as cited by Efe.

Matchday Gate Receipts and Memorial Tributes Scheduled Across Divisions
Beyond individual donations, institutional assistance emerged from various clubs. Burgos CF announced it will dedicate 100 percent of ticket sales from its upcoming home match against CD Tenerife at El Plantío, scheduled for the weekend of March 20 and 21, 2027. Similarly, UD Almería will direct all gate revenue from its home fixture against the Tenerife side, corresponding to the 34th matchday, following an initiative led by club president Mohammed Al Khereiji.
Memorial actions accompany the financial support. UD Las Palmas wore its blue-and-white third kit on Sunday against CD Eldense to honor Tenerife, while Eldense players wore black armbands as a sign of mourning. These gestures mirror a coordinated tribute organized jointly by LaLiga, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), and Liga F for matches played between November 6 and November 9. During those fixtures, players stepped onto the pitch wearing shirts featuring the number 9 and the slogan “Siempre en nuestro recuerdo,” accompanied by a minute of silence and a match stoppage in the ninth minute.
CD Tenerife organized an open memorial event for supporters at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium, attended by an institutional and sporting delegation from UD Las Palmas led by club president Miguel Ángel Ramírez. The proceedings were broadcast via the official LaLiga Hypermotion channel, the league’s official YouTube channel, and RFEF platforms.
Remaining Questions Concerning Ongoing Support and Fund Distribution
While the initial GoFundMe campaign surpassed its threshold within two days, neither the organizers nor participating clubs have detailed a framework for the long-term management of the trust for De Miguel’s widow and daughter.
