Coach Coop Guides the Bulldogs Beyond the Gridiron
Cooper anchored a culture that extended far past the stadium lights as an integral part of the football program at Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School. Those who worked alongside him described a man who functioned as far more than a coach. He acted as a mentor, leader, father figure, and a steady presence who believed in young men both on and off the field.
Tributes have flooded in from schools, athletic teams, and students throughout the community following his passing.
George Harden Issues Mental Health Support
Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School principal George Harden addressed the community directly following the loss. Harden wrote in a letter to parents and students that Cooper played an essential role in the school, the football program, and the daily lives of staff and students.
The letter acknowledged that the loss brings a heavy mix of emotions and questions for the Bulldog family while offering thoughts and prayers to loved ones affected. School officials have encouraged students and parents to take time to grieve and utilize mental health counselors if they are struggling.
