San Luis wins medals in gymnastics, swimming and adaptive athletics

San Luis athletes continued their medal run at the 2026 Juegos Nacionales Evita in Mar del Plata on Wednesday, overcoming persistent morning rain that forced organizers to accelerate the schedule for several outdoor events. The provincial delegation, consisting of 354 participants competing across 37 disciplines, added to its total count in gymnastics, swimming, and adaptive athletics, according to reports. The provincial delegation had another outstanding performance in Mar del Plata, with medals in artistic gymnastics, swimming, and adaptive athletics.

The weather conditions in the coastal city prompted officials to move up start times for multiple competitions, anticipating that rainfall could continue through Saturday. Despite the logistical adjustments, San Luis remained a significant presence in the standings, with teams now transitioning into the final phases of tournament play. Between Tuesday and Saturday, October 4, 244 athletes from San Luis competed in 36 disciplines alongside more than 8,600 young people from across the country in an event that combined sport, inclusion, and coexistence.

Gymnastics and adaptive athletics lead medal haul

The provincial delegation’s success was anchored by a gold-medal performance in artistic gymnastics. The team of Camila Barile, Francesca Marino, and Lupe Pérez Lanaro secured the top spot in the sub-12 level 1 category. The young gymnasts, guided by coaches Daniela Anzulovich and Victoria Argüelles, claimed the championship title following a consistent performance in the team competition.

Adaptive athletics provided a substantial boost to the San Luis medal count, yielding four individual podium finishes. Tobías Gómez earned a gold medal in the 100-meter sprint. Additional medals included silver finishes for María Luz Massi in the shot put, as well as Luzmila La Vía and Gonzalo Torres, who both secured silver in the 100-meter dash.

In the pool, Josefina Gómez added to the province’s tally by capturing a bronze medal in the 50-meter breaststroke event.

Badminton contender eyes Friday final

Alejandro Carrizo emerged as a key figure for San Luis in badminton, a sport that has historically been a reliable source of success for the provincial delegation. The team is composed of athletes from the ‘Naschelitos’ and ‘Cristo de Renca’ schools, mostly from Naschel and Renca, under the guidance of coach Jorge Giorgis. Carrizo, representing schools from Naschel and Renca under the direction of coach Jorge Giorgis, advanced through the group stage with victories over teams from Chaco, Tierra del Fuego, Entre Ríos, and Río Negro.

Having secured first place in his group, Carrizo is scheduled to face Neuquén in a knockout match this Friday. Regarding the upcoming match, the athlete from Naschel stated, I like to talk and show it on the court. Coach Giorgis highlighted the long-term development of the athletes involved, noting that while the Renca group is in its first six months of training, they are experiencing a national competition for the first time. Carrizo has been training for four years, and this edition marks his final year in the competitive modality of the Games.

Argentine Olympic Committee praises provincial medical service

One of the highlights of the week was the recognition San Luis received from the Argentine Olympic Committee (COA) and the National High Performance Sports Entity (Enard). Both organizations praised the provincial team for being the only delegation in the country with a 24-hour active medical service dedicated exclusively to the care of its athletes. The professional corps belongs to the Sports Secretariat’s Medical Department and is headed by Sergio Porporatto, along with sports physician Fernando Vasconi and kinesiologists Marcos Gómez, Carlos Escudero, María Paz Moyano, and Florencia Chaile.

Provincial teams face elimination stages and new sports debuts

As the competition progresses, the focus for San Luis shifts to the elimination stages for team sports. While the group phase concludes, the schedule for Thursday includes the debut of weightlifting, freestyle sports, and BMX. The results of the upcoming knockout rounds between Thursday and Friday will determine the final standing for provincial teams as they pursue additional medals.
