La Anthony and retired NBA star Carmelo Anthony have reached a settlement in their divorce, moving to end a legal process that began more than five years ago. According to court records cited by TMZ, the former couple informed the court this week that they have agreed to a settlement.
Judge Awaits Final Paperwork to Close Divorce Proceedings
While the parties have notified the court of their agreement, the case remains open. A judge has not yet signed off on the settlement, and the specific terms of the agreement are currently confidential, according to court records obtained by TMZ. Once the court approves the documentation, the divorce proceedings—initiated by La Anthony in 2021—will be formally closed.
Timeline of a Decade-Long Marriage
The couple’s history spans over two decades, beginning when they first met in 2003. They became engaged on Christmas Day 2004 and were married in New York City in 2010. Their wedding was documented for television on the reality series La’s Full Court Wedding. They share one son, 19-year-old Kiyan, who is currently a student at Syracuse University, the school where his father won a national championship. The couple had previously welcomed Kiyan in 2007, prior to their marriage.
Public reports of marital instability surfaced in April 2017 when the pair initially separated amid rumors of infidelity. Although they attempted to reconcile, La Anthony filed for divorce on June 17, 2021, citing irreconcilable differences. At the time of the filing, sources told TMZ that the pair intended to prioritize their son throughout the transition, maintaining a focus on their roles as parenting partners.
Future Outlook
With Kiyan now an adult, child support is no longer a factor in the legal proceedings. La Anthony, who is currently appearing in the fourth season of the Hulu series Reasonable Doubt, addressed her personal life in a recent appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show. During the interview, she stated that she is currently “open” to dating, describing her ideal partner as someone who enjoys shared experiences and adventure.
“I am being open to whatever God has for me, whatever life has for me. I said, ‘This is my season of being open,'” she told Hudson.
I like to do things and have experiences. I don’t want to sit in a house all day. I want to do stuff. So, somebody who’s always down for an adventure.”
Pending Judicial Approval
The finalization of the divorce hinges on the judge’s review of the settlement terms. Until the court signs the order, the case initiated in 2021 remains active. The 44-year-old actress and the 42-year-old former athlete are now nearing the conclusion of this years-long legal matter.
