Samsung Lions Defeat KIA Tigers to Advance to KBO Korean Series

Samsung Lions secured their ticket to the 2026 KBO Korean Series after defeating the Kia Tigers 6–1 in the decisive fifth game of the playoffs at Daegu Samsung Lions Park, advancing to the championship round with a 3–2 series victory. Ariel Jurado earned the postseason Most Valuable Player award after limiting Kia across his playoff outings, capped by the Game 5 victory.

Samsung Strikes Early in Decisive Game

Samsung set the tone in the opening frame against Kia starting starter Adam Oller. Kim Ji-chan singled to left field, and veteran Choo Hyung-woo drove in the game’s first run with a single up the middle after Koo Ja-wook reached on a two-out opportunity.

The offense continued in the second inning. Kang Min-ho opened with a single, Lee Jae-hyun doubled to left-center, and Kim Ji-chan delivered a two-run single to extend the lead to 3–0. Kim subsequently stole second base, allowing Park Seung-kyu to drive in a fourth run with a single to right field.

Late Insurance and Pitching Control

Kia scored their lone run in the third inning when a defensive miscue allowed Park Jae-hyun to score on a triple. Samsung answered in the sixth frame when Kim Ji-chan hit a triple off an outfield misplay by Kia left fielder Castro, followed by another RBI single from Park Seung-kyu to stretch the margin to 6–1.

Closer Won Tae-in secured the final outs, embracing catcher Kang Min-ho on the mound as the final out was recorded.

Championship Schedule and Next Opponent

Samsung advances to face regular-season pennant winner KT Wiz in the best-of-seven Korean Series. Game 1 is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. local time on Nov. 3 at Suwon KT Wiz Park.
