At the recently concluded youth events of the 21st Jiangsu Provincial Games, young athletes from Tinghu District secured multiple gold medals across weightlifting, archery, and swimming, according to regional sports reports. The medal count reflects the district’s ongoing focus on youth sports development, sports-education integration, and athletic talent cultivation.
School Campuses Serve as Primary Talent Nurseries
Tinghu District has shifted away from traditional, narrow talent-scouting models by prioritizing broad participation and precise talent identification through local schools. During after-school care periods, sports facilities across the district host regular sessions in judo, swimming, track and field, archery, and ball sports. Schools maintain differentiated athletic programs, allowing students to join sports clubs based on personal interest. Physical education teachers work alongside district-assigned coaches during daily classes and club activities to observe students’ physical aptitude, endurance, and stress resilience. Promising youths are then entered into the district’s sports reserve talent pool for targeted tracking and development.
District and Schools Combine Academic and Athletic Training
To resolve the common conflict between academic studies and rigorous athletic training, Tinghu District operates an integrated training mechanism where students attend regular classes during the day and undergo professional coaching after school. The Tinghu Sports School assigns professional coaches directly to partner campuses to handle technical skill drills, movement correction, and physical conditioning. Meanwhile, schools manage daily instruction and boarding to ensure athletes keep pace with their peers academically. Homeroom teachers, academic instructors, and sports coaches coordinate real-time tracking of each athlete’s progress, providing supplemental tutoring to students who fall behind due to heavy training schedules.
Sun Hao轩 and Other Standout Competitors Claim Provincial Titles
Several local athletes emerged from this school-based scouting and training pipeline to win titles at the 21st Jiangsu Provincial Games. In the weightlifting competition, Sun Haoxuan—who developed his athletic foundation while attending Tinghu New District Experimental Primary School and Tinghu New District Junior High School under coach Wu Jie—won the men’s 17–18 age group 109+ kg division with a 153 kg snatch, 180 kg clean and jerk, and a 333 kg total. That performance secured Yancheng’s first weightlifting gold of the provincial youth games. Additional gold medalists included Gao Kaize in the 15–16 age group men’s individual archery elimination event and Xing Lizheng, who swept both the 100-meter and 200-meter freestyle swimming titles.
Multi-Tiered Competition Structure Prepares Athletes for Higher Stages
The district maintains a progressive competition pathway spanning school, district, municipal, and provincial levels to test training outcomes and build competitive experience. Internal school leagues and district-level youth championships provide regular match play, while top performers advance to higher-tier competitions. For major events like the provincial games, coaching staff conduct simulated high-pressure matches to help athletes adapt to tournament conditions. Recent talent pipelines have sent more than 30 athletes to provincial professional teams, while three competitors have entered national training squads or the national team, including Tinghu-bred gymnast Hao Ting, who won a gold medal in the group all-around at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
