Old School Baseball Brings 1980s Arcade Action to Steam

Precision timing and nostalgia have arrived on PC monitors with the launch of Old School Baseball on Steam, bringing 1980s-inspired arcade sports action directly to desktop screens.

Pure Arcade Mechanics and Pinball Physics

Developed entirely by independent creator JBSIMWORKS, the title bypasses complex simulation menus and deep rulebooks in favor of fast-paced matches, direct player feedback, and streamlined controls. At its core, the game relies heavily on timing for both pitching and hitting.

While the control scheme is built for quick entry, it demands sharp precision to master high-level field performance. A pinball-inspired mechanic dictates high momentum across the diamond. Once a bat connects with a pitch, the exact timing of the player’s input dictates the ball’s trajectory, speed, and distance.

Classic Field Control and Immediate Feedback

Both throwing and batting mechanics provide immediate feedback to the user. Experienced players can paint the corners of the strike zone with precise pitches or punch hits directly into gaps in the opposing defense.

This deliberate design choice mimics the style of classic 1985 arcade and home computer games, rewarding split-second reactions over statistical micromanagement.

Championship Chases and Home Run Derbies

Beyond single matches, the release includes a full 42-game season mode. Teams that survive the regular season advance to the playoffs to chase a championship trophy, accompanied by individual awards and milestones.

For shorter sessions, users can jump straight into a Home Run Derby mode focused entirely on clearing outfield fences and setting personal distance records.

Customization and Steam Integration

To encourage repeated playthroughs, JBSIMWORKS integrated customizable match rules, unlockable cosmetic items, and a total of 24 Steam achievements.

The indie title is available now via Steam for PC users.
