Marc Márquez secured his victory at the Sepang International Circuit, moving him within reach of his eighth premier-class world title, gazzetta.it reported. The 33-year-old Ducati rider dominated the Malaysian Grand Prix, finishing ahead of Pedro Acosta and his brother Álex Márquez. With three rounds remaining in the 2026 championship, Márquez holds a commanding 44-point lead over Jorge Martín and a 67-point advantage over Marco Bezzecchi.
Sepang Opening Lap Sets the Tone for Victory
The race hinged on a maneuver at the first corner. Álex Márquez had started from pole position—his first since September 6, 2025, in Catalunya—after clocking a 1’56”493 in qualifying, with Marc lining up alongside him. When the lights went out, Marc Márquez dove from his grid slot straight to the apex of Turn 1, seizing the lead. Álex attempted an immediate counterattack through the second corner, but ran wide, allowing his older brother to slip underneath and check out.

Behind the leading Márquez machine, Pedro Acosta shadowed Álex Márquez through the early stages before making a decisive pass for second place at Turn 9 on the tenth lap. Acosta maintained that position to the checkered flag, while Marco Bezzecchi battled Ai Ogura for fourth place. Bezzecchi fended off repeated attacks from the Japanese rider until running wide on the final lap, finishing sixth behind Ogura in fourth and Enea Bastianini in fifth.
Championship Math Ahead of Qatar
According to Il Post, Jorge Martín missed the Malaysian Grand Prix entirely following wrist and radius fractures sustained in a sprint race crash at Phillip Island. His absence, combined with Bezzecchi finishing sixth, leaves Marc Márquez needing to outscore Martín by 30 points and Bezzecchi by 8 points during the upcoming race weekend in Qatar to clinch the title early.
The next round at Losail features a sprint race and the main Grand Prix on November 7 and 8, 2026, Il Post confirmed. Should Martín fail to recover in time to race in Qatar, or if Márquez seals the mathematical requirement, the title fight will conclude. If the battle extends beyond Losail, remaining fixtures at Portimão and Valencia provide the final opportunities.
Constructor Standings Shift in Malaysia
The Sepang result altered the manufacturer championship. Ai Ogura’s fourth-place finish brought points for the Noale factory, but Ducati moved ahead in the Constructors’ Standings with 537 points to Aprilia’s 529.

Track temperatures at Sepang exceeded 55 °C. Amid the intense heat and heavy tire wear, Marc Márquez managed a gap that peaked near four seconds over Acosta by the closing laps.
“All weekend, right from FP1, I took risks to understand the limits, and my perfect race comes from that,” Marc Márquez said after the race. Acosta reflected on the pace at the front, stating, “In the beginning Marc was very fast, but I was too. We are finishing the season very well.”
The MotoGP paddock travels to Losail for the Qatar Grand Prix weekend, with track action beginning on November 7, 2026.
Sepang Grand Prix Results and Milestone Context
The victory marked Marc Márquez’s 80th premier-class win and his 106th overall victory. The 33-year-old Spaniard claimed 25 points for the win, marking his seventh victory of the season and his seventh win in the last 11 races. Jorge Martín’s absence in Malaysia followed a crash during the sprint race at Phillip Island, Australia, after which the 28-year-old Aprilia rider also sat out the second practice session. In the opening laps at Sepang, Diogo Moreira crashed out of the top 10 on the 13th lap, while Francesco Bagnaia ran in 14th place.
