National Badminton Team Prepares for 2026 Wang Wenjiao Cup in Nanan

The Chinese national badminton team and various provincial squads stepped onto the courts at the newly outfitted Wang Wenjiao Badminton Hall in Nanan on October 31, 2025, to begin their first on-site training sessions ahead of the upcoming international tournament, 163.com reported.

Preparation Underway for the Wang Wenjiao Cup

The venue is hosting preparations for the 2026 Wang Wenjiao Cup China (Nanan) International Badminton Challenge, scheduled to run from November 3 to 8. During the opening afternoon of practice, players traded shots across four brightly lit standard courts while drilling footwork and net play. Organizers also converted the adjacent basketball hall into supplementary training space to accommodate the large influx of athletes.

Squad Depth and Venue Upgrades

A total of 68 players from the Chinese national team and 50 athletes from provincial and municipal squads have gathered in Fujian province to rotate through the facility. The upgraded venue now features seating for 3,000 spectators alongside comprehensive support infrastructure, including a dedicated exhibition hall honoring late badminton pioneer Wang Wenjiao, specialized training rooms, and a media center designed to meet grade-A comprehensive gymnasium standards.

Player Reactions to the Training Facility

National team men’s singles player Zhang Ning, a native of Sanming in Fujian province, noted that returning to his home region provided a familiar and comfortable training environment. Teammate Pan Yuanlong, making his first visit to Nanan, praised the quality of the playing surface and expressed eagerness for the upcoming matches, while pointing to Wang Wenjiao’s historical contributions to the sport as a key source of motivation.

Tournament Schedule and Format

Competition at the Wang Wenjiao Cup opens on November 3 and runs through November 8 at the Nanan-based venue. The event brings together top national and regional talent for a week-long challenge format before closing out on the final weekend.
