Judoka Mathilde Chabal wins Lormont and earns France team spot

Mathilde Chabal established herself across domestic and international competitions in the -70 kg weight category. The French judoka completed a demanding multi-year schedule spanning regional qualifiers, national university championships, and European Cup fixtures.

Her competitive progression reflects a steady climb through national divisions and international circuit events. She appeared as a sparring partner for senior national squads at major international gatherings, alongside individual podium finishes across multiple European countries.

The trajectory of her career details a series of results from the junior divisions through to senior-level international tournaments.

Tournament outcomes from the 2026 season highlight a busy international and domestic calendar. Chabal finished first at the Senior Label Excellence tournament in Lormont. She was selected for the French national team in the -70 kg division for the European Mixed Team Championships. She also served as a sparring partner for the French delegation at the World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan, and for the squad at the European Championships in Tbilisi, Georgia.

On the individual mat, she claimed third place at the European Cup Senior in North Macedonia, matched that result with a bronze medal at the European University Championships in Tirana, Albania, and took third at the Tallinn International Open in Estonia. Additional international results include a second-place finish at the Senior Label Excellence tournament in Wasquehal, Belgium, and a seventh-place finish at the European Open Senior in Warsaw, Poland. Domestically, she added a third-place finish at the St. Gratien Senior Label Excellence event and a fifth-place finish at the international tournament in Herstal, Austria.

During the 2025 season, Chabal secured seventh place at the French 1D Senior Championships, representing the highest tier of domestic competition. Her domestic and international campaign included a first-place finish at the Senior Label Excellence tournament in Lormont, a seventh-place finish at the Noisy-le-Grand Label Excellence event, and a third-place finish at the Senior Label Excellence tournament in Nantes.

The 2024 season was defined by regional and national milestones. She secured the senior regional title, placed fifth at the Senior Label Excellence event in Saint-Raphaël, and took third at St. Gratien.

Her 2023 results included notable international junior podium finishes. She took third place at the Junior European Cups in Birmingham, England, and Poznan, Poland, as well as a bronze medal at the Bad Blankenburg International Junior Tournament in Germany.

Early development through the regional structures in 2022 and 2021 laid the groundwork for her transition into senior competition. In 2022, she won the departmental and interdepartmental junior individual titles, triumphed at the Portes-lès-Valence junior tournament, and placed fifth at the Clermont International Excellence tournament. When surclassée—competing in higher age categories—she finished second in the senior regional semifinals and seventh at the 1D Junior French Championships. Her 2021 results featured a first-place finish at the Bresse Junior Open, a victory at the junior regional semifinals, and strong finishes in senior-level regional brackets.

Her cadet and minime years established her early standing within the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. In 2020, she won the cadet regional title for Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, captured the interdepartmental junior title across Rhône, Loire, and Isère, and finished third at the Clermont-Ferrand European Cadet Judo Tournament. Those performances followed regional successes in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018, where she secured multiple Rhône department titles, regional titles, and a minime regional team title.
