Artillery and Heavy Machine Gun Fire Hits Southern Lebanon

Israeli military forces carried out artillery bombardments and heavy machine gun fire targeting towns across southern Lebanon on Tuesday night, continuing a pattern of violations against a ceasefire agreement, Saba reported. The strikes hit Qantara and the outskirts of Aita al-Jabal, as well as the entrance to Quonine in the Bint Jbeil district.

The National News Agency of Lebanon documented widespread actions across multiple districts, including Al-Mansouri and Majdal Zoun in Tyre, Zawtar Al-Sharqiya and Nabatieh Al-Fawqa in Nabatieh, Hadatha in Bint Jbeil, and the Zahrani zone in Sidón, Prensa Latina reported. Israeli warplanes struck Al-Mansouri while forces executed controlled housing demolitions that sent heavy shockwaves rolling through the city of Tyre. Similar large-scale structural demolitions occurred in Majdal Zoun. In Nabatieh, airstrikes targeted the periphery of Zawtar Al-Sharqiya alongside the Scout City complex, while intermittent artillery rounds pounded the Ali Al-Tahir heights. Troops also opened machine gun fire toward Hadatha as military vehicles moved through the area, and an Israeli drone flew at low altitude above Zahrani. Initial reports from the National News Agency listed no casualties from the latest round of operations.

Sign Diplomatic Pacts Amid Ongoing Military Operations

On June 18, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the electronic signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran, setting terms for a ceasefire across all active fronts including Lebanon, according to Saba. Weeks later, on June 26, officials in Beirut and Tel Aviv signed a U.S.-brokered framework agreement in Washington that outlined a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces and the subsequent deployment of the Lebanese Army into evacuated zones, Prensa Latina reported. Despite those diplomatic pacts, military operations and localized ground controls persist in various southern sectors.

The broader military campaign has exacted a severe toll since escalating on March 2. Lebanese official figures cited by Prensa Latina place the death toll at least 4,386 people, with 12,413 wounded and more than one million displaced. Separate figures from Saba estimate the total displaced population at approximately 1.5 million citizens amid ongoing damage to civilian infrastructure throughout towns and villages in the south.
