Twenty-nine young players from Zufikon and Mutschellen traveled to Gränichen for the Aargauer Junior Badminton Championship, capturing three category titles and twelve total podium finishes.
Freiamt Youth Squad Dominates Gränichen Tournament
The contingent from the Freiamt region represented the largest single group at the tournament, fielding competitors between the ages of 9 and 18. Training sessions for the squad take place through school sports programs in Zufikon and at the Burkertsmatt facility in Widen, while competing players hold licenses with Badminton Mutschellen.
Match formats in Gränichen featured no extra-time extensions across all divisions. This rule triggered numerous tense finishes, with several sets closing on tight 15-14 scorelines. The U13 and U15 brackets drew the largest player fields, producing the most fiercely contested matches that frequently extended to a decisive third set.
Category Champions and Podiums
Angelina Huber of Arni and Yanis Reier of Zufikon claimed the Aargauer titles in the top A strength class for the U19 category, playing for Badminton Mutschellen. Sara Singeisen, also from Zufikon, captured the SK B title in the same age group, while her brother Marlon took the runner-up spot in the U13 SK A division.
Additional podium placements included Flurin and Aaron Martin from Eggenwil, who finished as runners-up in the U15 SK A and SK B brackets respectively. Third-place finishes went to Shanaya Steger (Zufikon, U15 SK A), Yangcheng Shen (Oberrohrdorf, U15 SK A), Noé Roseng (Zufikon, U15 SK B), Elin Fischli (Zufikon, U13 SK A), Andrin Fischer (Zufikon, U13 SK B), and Romeo Haudenschild (Niederwil, U11 SK B).
Speed-Measuring Station Records Smash Speeds
A speed-testing station drew strong interest throughout the competition, recording smash velocities for roughly a dozen Zufikon and Mutschellen competitors who earned diplomas and extra prizes by placing in their division’s top three. Angelina Huber set the women’s daily high mark by driving a shuttlecock at 180.8 km/h.
Top speed figures across other age groups included Yanis Reier reaching 202 km/h in the U19 division, Til Willuweit hitting 188.2 km/h in U17, Flurin Martin recording 174.3 km/h in U15, and Shanaya Steger logging 149.1 km/h also in U15.
