Vietnam’s premier badminton athletes are intensifying their preparations for the 10th National Sports Games, scheduled for November 15–25, 2026, at the Ho Xuan Huong Sports Complex in Ho Chi Minh City. The quadrennial event will feature seven distinct categories, including singles, doubles, and team competitions, with organizers enforcing strict eligibility rules to ensure peak physical performance, according to reports from Vietnam.vn.
The upcoming tournament arrives as the nation’s top players transition from an active international calendar to a domestic focus. Nguyen Thuy Linh, the country’s top-ranked women’s singles player, is currently training at the Bac Ninh University of Physical Education and Sports. Linh, who competed in tournaments in Finland and Denmark earlier this year, is aiming for her third gold medal at the National Sports Games.
National Badminton Championship Results Set the Pace
Recent performances at the 2026 National Badminton Championships in Quang Tri have established the current hierarchy among the contenders. In the women’s singles final, Nguyen Thuy Linh secured a decisive 2-0 victory over Vu Thi Trang of Ho Chi Minh City. Similarly, Nguyen Hai Dang asserted his dominance in the men’s singles bracket, defeating Phan Phuc Thinh 2-0 to claim the title. These results serve as a critical benchmark for the athletes as they look toward the November Games.
The domestic circuit has also shown signs of shifting momentum. While established pairs like Pham Thi Khanh and Pham Thi Dieu Ly have been staples of the circuit, they recently suffered a defeat in the women’s doubles to the duo of Bui Bich Phuong and Vu Thi Chinh. Meanwhile, the men’s doubles title at the national championships went to Nguyen Dinh Hoang and Tran Dinh Manh, signaling a narrowing gap in skill levels across the field.
Tournament Structure and Eligibility Regulations
The organizing committee has implemented rigorous participation constraints for the 10th National Sports Games to manage the physical workload of the competitors. Athletes aged 14 and older are eligible to compete, but the rules prohibit those entered in singles events from participating in any doubles category. Furthermore, athletes are limited to a maximum of two doubles events, with a disqualification policy in place for any player who fails to complete their first registered doubles match.
These regulations are designed to maintain the competitive integrity of the Games, as the national team core—including Nguyen Hai Dang, Nguyen Dinh Hoang, and others who represented Vietnam at the 20th Asian Games—prepares for the November showdown. Before the matches begin, officials will conduct a formal seeding process and draw to finalize the brackets for all seven events.
International Ambitions at the Asian Championships
While domestic preparation is the priority for the November Games, Vietnam’s elite players remain active on the continental stage. According to Le Courrier du Vietnam, eight Vietnamese athletes are participating in the 2026 Asian Badminton Championships held in Ningbo, China, from April 7–11. The competition features a prize pool of $550,000, with $38,500 awarded to the men’s and women’s singles winners.

Nguyen Thuy Linh, ranked 26th globally, entered the Asian Championships as the sole Vietnamese representative in the women’s singles. Her path in Ningbo includes a first-round match against Huang Yu-Hsun of Chinese Taipei, ranked 30th. If successful, she faces a potential second-round matchup against the world number one, An Se Young of South Korea. Nguyen Hai Dang is also competing in the men’s singles, though he is required to navigate the qualification rounds to reach the main draw. These international efforts serve as a final testing ground for the players before they return to Vietnam for the focus of their four-year cycle.
