Thùy Linh wins ninth national badminton title, Vietnam reports

Thùy Linh secured her ninth national badminton title by defeating Vũ Thị Trang 21-11, 21-8 in the final at the 2026 top players’ national championship, according to Vietnam reports. The victory extends an unbeaten domestic run that dates back to 2018.

Thùy Linh Controls Final Rematch

Ranked No. 28 in the world, Thùy Linh asserted control early against her 34-year-old opponent, Vũ Thị Trang, who stands 57 spots lower in the global rankings. The championship match served as a repeat of the 2025 final, but superior physical conditioning and varied shot-making allowed Thùy Linh to dictate the pace after a competitive opening to the first set.

The two players traded points until the score reached 6-6 in the first frame. Thùy Linh then strung together a series of attacking sequences to pull away 21-11. In the second set, the 29-year-old champion kept Vũ Thị Trang moving across the court, forcing errors that closed out the match at 21-8.

Thùy Linh Maintains Top Status in Vietnam

The win reinforces Thùy Linh’s status at the top of Vietnam’s badminton hierarchy. Earlier in May 2026, she overcame a deficit to defeat Vũ Thị Trang once more in the final of the National Badminton Club Championships.

In the doubles events, Đinh Hoàng and Đinh Mạnh of Lam Dong claimed the men’s doubles crown. Bích Phương and Vũ Chính secured a title for Hanoi, while the pairing of Văn Trường and Bích Phương also earned a championship for Hanoi in their respective final.
