First-place finishes in Brembate di Sopra and a fifth-place effort at the Trofeo Italia in Policoro

First-place finishes in Brembate di Sopra and a fifth-place effort at the Trofeo Italia in Policoro headline the latest weekend for the young judoka of Robur et Fides, the Varese-based club whose U18 and U21 athletes traveled to the Matera province for the national tournament on the last weekend of October, Prealpina reported.

Five of the club’s athletes took the mat at the Trofeo Italia in Policoro, with Claudia Gusmini delivering the best result of the trip by finishing fifth in the U21 44 kg category. Davide Peccini (66 kg) and Edoardo Mentasti (73 kg), competing in the same U21 age band, were both eliminated at the fifth round.

Moscatelli goes 5-2 at 66 kg for seventh place

In the U18 division, Marco Moscatelli put together the busiest day of the weekend at 66 kg, competing in seven matches and winning five before losing two, a record that earned him seventh place. Viola Martignoni matched that placing in her category.

A deep bench of young judoka for the Varese club

Beyond the individual placings, the standout story of the weekend was the sheer number of young athletes Robur et Fides put into competition across the two events β€” a sign, Prealpina reported, of the solid developmental work being done by the Varese club.
