Norina Amhof wins double gold at Uster judo tournament

Norina Amhof of the Judo and Aikido Club Wohlen captured two gold medals at ranking tournaments in Uster, Switzerland, winning both the under-18 and under-15 titles in the up-to-52 kg division over a single weekend, Wohler Anzeiger reported.

Amhof was the only Wohlen athlete to stand atop the podium in two age categories. She won the U18 final with an ippon and then went unbeaten through the U15 student tournament to complete the double.

Nine Wohlen Athletes Across Two Uster Tournaments

Uster hosted two competitions over the weekend: a ranking tournament for U18 and older categories, and a student tournament for U15 and younger age groups. The Judo and Aikido Club Wohlen fielded nine athletes, and several teammates added podium finishes to Amhof’s twin golds.

In the U18 ranking tournament, Fabienne Bun placed fifth in the up-to-48 kg category. Svenia Schnyder reached the final in the up-to-57 kg division after winning her preliminary bouts and took silver. Both Schnyder and Selina Dioguardi also competed in the U21 category, where each finished fifth — Schnyder at up-to-57 kg and Dioguardi at up-to-52 kg.

Elite Category Brings Bronze for Andreas Schmid

In the elite division, Andreas Schmid advanced directly to the semifinal on a bye. He lost that match narrowly but rebounded with an ippon to claim bronze in the up-to-100 kg category. Dominic Karlen won one bout in the up-to-66 kg elite division with a bearhug before losing his remaining matches. Dioguardi also entered the elite competition and finished fifth.

Younger Divisions Add Another Medal for Wohlen

Sunday’s student tournament brought the younger Wohlen athletes into action. Tom Mitchell placed seventh in the up-to-33 kg category and Yannik Mitchell seventh at up-to-36 kg. Finley Mitchell won the bronze-medal match at up-to-30 kg to finish third. Amhof, competing again at up-to-52 kg in the U15 bracket, won all of her matches to take her second gold of the weekend.

Amhof’s Unbeaten Weekend Stands Out

Amhof’s two titles contrasted with the mixed results of her clubmates: of nine Wohlen athletes, only Amhof, Schnyder and Finley Mitchell reached a medal match, and only Amhof converted twice. Her U18 final victory came by ippon, while she won every bout in the U15 to top the division. Both tournaments took place in Uster, with the ranking event serving older categories and the student tournament reserved for U15 and below.
