The Bavarian Badminton Association is recruiting a full-time base coach for its youth development center in Nuremberg, targeting an appointment date of March 1, 2027, or later. The organization announced the 40-hour weekly position to support expanding performance structures at the German Badminton Association youth base located at the VICTOR Landesleistungsstützpunkt Nuremberg.
Restructuring Leadership at the Nuremberg Base
The recruitment drive follows an organizational overhaul implemented on September 1, 2026, designed to handle an influx of national squad athletes, emerging talents, and expanded training programs. More federal squad athletes, new talents, additional training offers, and a growing coach and support team bring new possibilities as well as rising demands, prompting the organizational changes. Kai Schäfer took over leadership of the Nuremberg facility, managing site-wide development and administrative operations. Tobias Wadenka oversees athletic development as the lead base coach, while Sports Director Lukas Gunzelmann shifted focus toward statewide performance growth and coaching education while retaining a role within the Nuremberg coaching staff. Dual-degree student Kevin Baum completes the current staff, handling sports performance and federation development duties.
Daily Responsibilities and Interprofessional Support
The newly created full-time role centers on approximately 20 weekly hours of direct court training. Beyond regular sessions, the selected coach will act as a primary mentor responsible for the individual progression of designated athletes, travel alongside competitors to national and international tournaments, and help shape training camps and talent promotion initiatives. The association structured the position around an interprofessional support model that combines court practice with athletic conditioning, sports psychology, physiotherapy, and sports medicine.
Compensation and Professional Requirements
Applicants are expected to bring prior experience in youth high-performance sports alongside a willingness to learn, strong personal accountability, and a collaborative approach. The association offers a 40-hour workweek with 30 vacation days, financial backing for professional development, and voluntary fringe benefits. The position carries a starting gross annual salary of at least 45,000 euros, with permanent employment planned following the successful completion of a probationary period.
Application Process and Coach Evaluation
Applicants are requested to submit their employment materials to the association. In evaluating candidates, the organization evaluates both their professional history and their stance as a coach, specifically asking applicants what Badminton without limits
means to them, how they handle challenges, and in what areas they want to develop further together with the association.
