Tolima Archery Advocates Seek Official Departmental League Recognition

Archery in Tolima is moving toward formal departmental recognition as athletes, trainers, and families assemble documentation to establish an official departmental league designed to structure training programs, expand competitive opportunities, and project the region’s children and youth in the discipline. The initiative receives key backing from families, athletes, and trainers including professor Daniel Barbosa, who is collaborating directly with parents to manage the necessary requirements and documents needed to secure league accreditation from the relevant authorities.

This organizational push follows competitive achievements by athletes from the Club Deportivo Black Arrow during the Campeonato Regional Zona Andina y Campeonato Regional Final held in Cali, Valle del Cauca, between October 21 and October 25, 2026. At the tournament, a female Tolimense athlete secured two medals in the sub-12 female novice recurve division: a bronze medal in the qualification round and a silver medal in the individual matches.

Development and Values of the Discipline

Families involved view these results as clear evidence of the department’s athletic potential and the necessity of establishing a proper sports structure to support developing talents. A club parent emphasized that archery extends well beyond competition scores, helping cultivate essential personal traits. Es una actividad deportiva que forma mucho más que arqueros noted the parent, highlighting that the practice fosters discipline, self-control, patience, concentration, responsibility, teamwork, safety, and mutual respect.

The four-day competition allowed families to evaluate the preparation levels of competing regional programs and recognize the capabilities of Tolima’s youth representatives. Consequently, a formal appeal was extended to sports institutions, educational facilities, the Governor’s Office of Tolima, the Mayor’s Office of Ibagué, and private enterprises to join the league consolidation effort through institutional support, training courses, sponsorships, logistics, and technical guidance.

Institutional Support and Future Goals

While acknowledging the spaces provided by IMDRI for practicing the discipline at the Parque Deportivo and the stadium, representatives requested that these current provisions be complemented with broader backing. Organizing families and coach Daniel Barbosa are actively processing the legal requirements to achieve official league recognition, intending to construct a well-managed sporting framework that builds community and offers healthy alternatives for young people across the department.
